The Ambassador of the United Kingdom to the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency James Dauris, called on His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives this morning.

At the United Nations General Assembly debate on ‘Question of equitable representation on and increase in the membership of the Security Council and other matters related to the Security Council’, the Maldives highlighted that comprehensive reform and expansion of the Security Council is essential to make the Security Council democratic in composition, effective in decision-making and accountable to the general membership.

At the United Nations Security Council’s open debate on Peacekeeping Operations facing Asymmetrical threats, the Maldives highlighted that the collective work of the peacekeeping missions must be guided by a precise and comprehensive framework for identifying threats to civilians in order to respond to the changes in the security environment.

The Government of Maldives today has decided to lift visa ban to travellers arriving from countries heavily affected by Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

Norwegian Ambassador to the Maldives, His Excellency Mr. Thorbjørn Gaustadsæther has called on the Foreign Minister, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim today.

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of condolence to the President of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena, following the demise of veteran vocalist, musician and composer, Mr. Pandith W. D. Amaradewa.
