29 February 2016, Geneva; Foreign Minister H.E. Dunya Maumoon arrived in Geneva today to attend the High Level Segment of the thirty First Session of the UN Human Rights Council scheduled to be held from 29 February to 4 March 2016. As head of Maldives delegation to the session, the Foreign Minister will be delivering her statement at the High Level Segment on 1 March 2016 at 1700 hrs. The Minister is scheduled to meet with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and other bilateral partners to discuss issues of mutual interest during the sidelines of the session.
The Maldives was re-elected to the Human Rights Council for the term 2014 to 2016 in November 2013. This is the final year of its second term. The Maldives seat at the Council is represented by the Permanent Mission of Maldives to the United Nations Office in Geneva. The Maldives' policy at its second term at the Council was mostly based on its belief that establishing structural frameworks alone is not sufficient for human rights promotion; it requires cultivating values as well.
The Maldives delegation to the session also includes Attorney General H.E. Mohamed Anil, H.E.
