Our conversation today has once again assured that as a nation we have moved forward more quickly and more ambitiously, says Attorney General

19 January 2016, Geneva; While illustrating the Maldives progress in promotion and protection of children at the Committee on the Rights of the Child, the Attorney General HE. Mohamed Anil has underscored that the Maldives has demonstrated its full commitment to perform in line with the provisions and principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. We have ensured a robust and a progressive system of child development. The Attorney General made the statement in his closing remarks at the review of the fourth and fifth combined report of the Maldives under the Convention on the Rights of the Child held in Geneva today. Attorney General also stated that ‘We came here with a sincere intent to listen, to engage, and share our experiences as well as the formidable challenges we encounter. More significantly, to listen to your concerns and to be guided by the experiences and recommendations shared with us. Continuing with his closing remarks AG further said that ‘Our conversation today has once again assured that as a nation we have moved forward more quickly and more ambitiously.

During his statement the Attorney General also thanked the members of the committee who took the time to pose questions and clarifications and welcomed them in the spirit of dialogue and engagement.

In concluding, Attorney General also acknowledged representatives of civil society, who have contributed to the Parallel Reports submitted to the Committee. Attorney General reaffirmed the Government’s commitment towards continuing to make the life of  Maldivian children brighter.

The Maldives delegation to the Convention on the Rights of the Child was led by H.E Attorney General Mohamed Anil, Foreign Secretary  H.E Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed and Permanent Representative of Maldives in Geneva, H.E Dr. Hala Hameed, Mrs. Mariyam Azra Ahmed, Minister of State for Law and Gender, Mrs. Fathimath Azza, Director General of Ministry of Education, Mrs. Hawwa Shafeea Riza, Senior State attorney at Attorney General’s Office, Ms. Rishfa Rasheed, Counsellor at the Maldives Mission in Geneva, Mrs. Aishath Rishmee, Assistant Director of Ministry of Law and Gender, Mr. Abdulla Ashraf, Assistant Director of Ministry of Law and Gender and Ms. Laila Shareef, Senior Desk Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
