"Maldives looks forward to Commonwealth playing a more proactive role in building the resilience of the small states" - Foreign Secretary

25 November 2015, Malta; H.E. Dr Ali Naseer Mohamed, Foreign Secretary of the Republic of Maldives has attended the Commonwealth Foreign Ministers Meeting held today in Malta.

At today’s Session on Small States, the Foreign Secretary stated that the Commonwealth has played an important role in championing issues relevant to the small states, the most important being ‘vulnerability’. He also stated that the Maldives looks forward to the Commonwealth playing a more proactive role in building the resilience of the small states, and that resilience should be looked at from various angles, including social, political, and the economic dimensions.

Foreign Secretary H.E. Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed was accompanied by H. E. Mr. Ahmed Shiaan, High Commissioner of Maldives to Belgium and Mr. Hassan Shifau, Acting High Commissioner at the Maldives  High Commission in UK and Ms. Leesha Mohamed, Senior Desk Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A number of issues were discussed at the Foreign Ministers meeting today before the commencement of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting on 27 November 2015.

The Commonwealth Foreign Ministers Meeting will take place for two days from 25 to 26 November 2015. Today’s Session focused on the Economic and Development issues of Climate Change, Sustainable Development Goals and on Small States.
