3 November 2015, Male'; H.E. Ms. Dunya Maumoon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has sent a message on international day of solidarity with Palestinian people to His Excellency Mr. Riyad al-Maliki Minister for Foreign Affairs of Palestine.
Minister’s message reads as follows:
"Today as the world marks the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, I wish to reiterate the solidarity of my Government and People with the Government and people of Palestine and their legitimate aspirations for an independent State. Maldives will continue to demand an end to the flagrant violations of international law which continue to occur under occupation.
We in the Maldives continue to be alarmed and distressed by the increased tensions which have led to the loss of many lives, destruction of essential infrastructure and the theft of natural resources. The occupying power continues to arrest and detain Palestinians without due process. Hundreds have died in Israeli jails as a result of torture, denial of medical treatment or deliberate killing. Such meaningless loss of human life cannot be condoned.
Another year has passed and the international community has yet again failed to bring an end to the plight of the Palestinian people. Generations are living and dying under violence and repression. Violence and repression are being perpetuated over generation. We continue to call for peace but peace cannot be achieved by apartheid in the guise of semi-autonomy. The Occupation must end for peace to prevail.
A comprehensive settlement for the conflict is long overdue. The Maldives wholeheartedly believes in a two state solution recognizing the sovereign and independent State of Palestine, based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. The Maldives will remain steadfast in this journey with the Palestinian people to self-determination. We commend the Palestinian people for their bravery and determination in the fight for justice and freedom.
May Allah Almighty fulfill the dreams of the Palestinian people."
