29 April 2015, Malé; The Government of Maldives held a Policy Dialogue with the EU Ambassadors accredited to Maldives today.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Ms. Dunya Maumoon welcomed the Ambassadors and outlined that the purpose of the Dialogue [is] to further the Maldives’ engagement with the European Union in an open and constructive manner. The Minister stressed that the Maldives’ wished for a strong partnership with the EU in the country’s path towards democracy consolidation. Continuing her remarks the Minister highlighted the remarkable strides achieved by the Maldives since 2004 in its democratization process and noted the emerging challenges. “These challenges have been exacerbated by the realities of having to nurture and cultivate an entirely new system of governance under global spotlight”, said the Minister.
In his remarks the EU Ambassador to the Maldives H E Mr. David Daly thanked the Government for organizing the Dialogue and highlighted the existing partnership between the EU and the Maldives.
Today’s Dialogue was attended by several Members of the Cabinet including; Attorney General H E Mr. Mohamed Anil, Minister of Home Affairs H E Mr. Umar Naseer, Minister of Defence and National Security H E Maj. Gen. Rt. Moosa Ali Jaleel, Minister of Islamic Affairs Mr. H E Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and the Minister of Economic Development H E Mr. Mohamed Saeed.
The Ambassador of Germany H E Dr Jurgen Morhard, Ambassador of Italy H E Mr. Fabrizio Pio Arpea, Ambassador of Netherlands H E Mr. Louis Piet and Charge d’Affairs of the British High Commission participated in today’s meeting.
