New Maldives Ambassador to Belgium presents credentials to His Majesty the King of Belgium

12 March 2015, Brussels, Belgium; The new Ambassador of Maldives to the Kingdom of Belgium, H.E. Mr. Ahmed Shiaan, presented his Letter of Credence to the King of the Belgians, His Majesty King Philippe on 10 March 2015.

The ceremony took place at the Royal Palace of Belgium in Brussels where His Majesty welcomed Ambassador Shiaan, expressing pleasure to receive the new resident Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Belgium.  Ambassador Shiaan thanked His Majesty the King for the audience and conveyed the greetings and good wishes from H. E. President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to King Philippe.

During the private audience following the ceremony, King Philippe congratulated President Yameen and noted the impressive economic developments and progress being gained by the Maldives. King Philippe expressed confidence that the appointment of Ambassador Shiaan will lead to further strengthening of the  existing close relations between the two countries. King Philippe and Ambassador Shiaan also discussed the challenges facing the Maldives due to climate change

Ambassador Shiaan assured King Philippe of his commitment to work closely with the Belgian Government to foster closer collaboration and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Shiaan was accompanied by Ms. Fathimath Ghina, Counsellor and Mr. Hussain Shareef, Third Secretary at the Embassy of Maldives in Belgium.
