Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Ms Dunya Maumoon called on the President of the Human Rights Council H E Mr. Joachim Ruecker who is serving as the current President of the Human Rights Council. Ambassador Ruecker is the Permanent Representative of Germany to the UN Office in Geneva. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the ongoing High Level Segment of the twenty-Eight session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
During the meeting Minister Dunya briefed the Human Rights Council President on the current political situation in the Maldives and assured the Government’s commitment to engage constructively with the Human Rights Council and to continue its advocacy in promoting and protecting human rights both nationally and internationally. Discussions in the meeting also focused on the role played by the Maldives at the Council and Ambassador Ruecker expressed hope that the Maldives would continue its active role at the Council in addressing human rights issues around the globe.
