President congratulates Indian Prime Minister Designate

18 May 2014, Male'; During a telephone conversation today, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has extended his congratulations to the Indian Prime Minister designate, Shri Narendra Modi, following the success in the recent Lok Sabha elections in India.

Noting that BJP had secured a vast majority in the elections, the President said that the people’s confidence in the party was evident in the election results.

Shri Narendra Modi highlighted the close bilateral relations between the Maldives and India, and spoke on the importance of further strengthening the relations.

Shri Narendra Modi expressed his gratitude to President Yameen for the good wishes. He assured the President that he would give high priority to build on the existing relations between the two countries, during his tenure as Prime Minister. Speaking in this regard, Shri Narendra Modi said that it was important for President Yameen and himself to meet and discuss further, on ways to develope the good relations between India and Maldives.
