Members of the commonwealthâ€™s delegation who had arrived in Maldives to observe the parliamentary elections, has paid a courtesy call on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
At the meeting held this morning at the Presidentâ€™s Office, members of the delegation noted that the election was well organized and had taken place very smoothly. Further, chairman of the delegation Mr Bruce Golding, lauded the Maldivians for having demonstrated a remarkable example of democracy during the process. Members of the delegation also shared some concerns they had noted during the elections and in addition underscored the importance of maintaining public confidence in officials, such as members of the Election Commision, who fulfill stateâ€™s vital functions.
President Yameen was joined at the call by Minister at the Presidentâ€™s Office Hon. Mohamed â€Žâ€ŽHussain Shareef, Minister at the Presidentâ€™s Office Hon. Mohamed Ameen and Ambassador at Large Abdulla Hameed.
