18th December 2013, Male’; The Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Government of Japan, with a view to further developing friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries, signed an Exchange of Notes today at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His Excellency Mr. Abdulla Ameen, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs signed the Exchange of Notes on behalf of the Government of Maldives and His Excellency Mr. Nobuhito Hobo, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Maldives, signed the Exchange of Notes on behalf of the Government of Japan.
Under the terms of the Exchange of Notes the Government of Japan shall extend to the Government of Maldives, a grant of two hundred million Japanese Yen (¥ 200,000,000). The grant aid will be utilized to strengthen the health sector of Maldives.
Speaking after the signing of the Exchange of Notes, Acting Foreign Minister Ameen noted the close relations between the two countries and thanked the Japanese Government and the people for their friendship and good will towards the Maldives. Ambassador Nobuhito also noted the close ties between Japan and the Maldives since the established diplomatic relations 46 years ago.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health and Gender, Ministry of Finance and Treasury and the officials of the Embassy of the Japan to the Maldives.
