7 Dec 2013, Male’: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with SAARC Coastal Zone Management Centre (SCZMC) in Male’ celebrated the SAARC Charter Day by holding a children’s evening at A. Dh. Atoll Education Centre in Mahibadhoo. The event was targeted for children in islands of Alifu, Dhaal, namely Mahibadhoo, HanyaaMeedhoo, Omadhoo and Kumburudhoo. Approximately, two hundred children ranging from 5to 13 years participated in this event.
The aim of the event was to raise awareness among children about SAARC, Charter Day, activities held under SAARC umbrella and its role in the development of the region. The children were presented with an information session followed by a quiz and fun educational activities for different age groups. The event was supported and assisted by the A. Dh Atoll Education Centre, Mahibadhoo Council and Kumburudhoo council.
This year marks 29th SAARC Charter Day. SAARC Charter was signed by the 7 founding Members (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Pakistan) of SAARC on 8 December 1985. Afghanistan joined SAARC as its 8th Member on April 2007.
