Indian Foreign Secretary calls on the President

Foreign Secretary of India to the Maldives Sujatha Singh has paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed. The meeting was held this evening at the official residence of the President.

At the meeting, both the officials spoke on the long existing bilateral relations between the two countries. President Waheed expressed his gratitude to the Indian government for the continuous support being provided to the Maldives.

Highlighting the Presidential Elections to be held on October 19, the President assured the Foreign Secretary that the government would put in every effort to ensure a free and fair election. He further pointed out that he had instructed all government institutions to abide by the Supreme Court order, and carry out all the electoral processes smoothly.

The Indian Foreign Secretary conveyed Indian government’s hopes that the election process would be completed peacefully. She assured the President of India’s assistance throughout the process.
