7 January 2017, Beijing; As part of the Official visit to China, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim, Minister of Foreign Affairs visited Dalian and met with Maldivian students studying at the Dalian Medical University.
While addressing the students and management of the University, Minister highlighted that Dalian Medical University produces one of the highest number of Maldivian medical graduates and congratulated the students who successfully completed their programme and graduated yesterday. The Minister also spoke about President Yameen’s key pledge of providing and promoting high-quality education for all Maldivians and securing a brighter future for the Maldivian youth. Minister Asim addressed the students as the best Ambassadors of Maldives in China, helping to enhance the close cordial relationship between the two countries.
Minister Asim’s remarks were followed by a lively Q&A session where both Chinese and Maldivian students participated. Minister Asim had a separate meeting with Maldivian students. During this meeting the students presented a plaque for His Excellency President Abdulla Yameen as an appreciation for his efforts to strengthen the relations between the two countries.Minister Asim also toured the students campus and one of the dorms where Maldivian students reside.
Minister Asim also had a meeting with Mr. Sun Zhao Lin, General Secretary of the Dalian Medical University this morning. The University awarded two Chinese Government scholarship opportunities as a token of friendship between the two countries. On behalf of the Government, Minister Asim thanked the General Secretary for this generous offer and expressed hope that the quota allocation for Maldivian students will be increased in prestigious learning centre’s in China including Dalian in the near future.
