1 November 2016, Male'; Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim has said “Much can be achieved through sharing of knowledge and transfer of technology by countries of the global south.” Minister Asim was speaking as a special invitee to the “Side-Event of the South-South and Triangular Cooperation for Scaling Up Innovation in Public Service Delivery” held in Dubai during the “Global South-South Development Expo”. Minister addressed the side-event live over Skype this afternoon and highlighted on the achievements and challenges of public service delivery in the Maldives.
Minister in his speech mentioned that the Maldives is taking advantage of the commendably high digital penetration in the country, which was the highest in South Asia. He also said that several public service institutions are making their services available online, paving the for greater efficiency and effectiveness.
Minister Asim noted that the Maldives welcomes this initiative of the Government of Bangladesh and the UN Office for the South-South Cooperation; and highlighted that the Maldives would be a willing partner in exploring solutions that have the potential to be up-scaled globally through south-south and triangular cooperation.
