Minister of Economic Development meets with the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China

18 August 2016; Minister of Economic Development of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Mohamed Saeed met with the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Kong Xuanyou this morning in meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the People’s Republic of China His Excellency Mohamed Faisal was also present at the meeting.

During the meeting the Economic Minister briefed the Assistant Minister on the progress of ongoing development projects in the Maldives with the assistance of the Chinese Government including the “China-Maldives Friendship Bridge”, Housing Development Projects and the Airport Development Project.

Assistant Minister assured that China will always remain a close partner in Maldives development efforts and promised to assist the Maldives to ensure the successful completion of the ongoing projects. The Assistant Minister also pledged support of the Chinese Government for the Economic Agenda of President Yameen while also asserting that the Government of China is ready to provide assistance in other development areas and in promoting Chinese investment in the Maldives.

Minister Saeed thanked the Chinese Government for the support and guidance for the development of the Maldives and highlighted the assistance provided by China in the progress of the country. Minister Saeed highlighted that the Government policy is geared towards the economic development of the country to enhance the living standard of the citizens. The Minister noted that China is a close partner in the economic transformation of the country.
