23 May 2016, Istanbul; The first World Humanitarian Summit begins in Istanbul, Turkey. The two day summit attended by Heads of States, senior officials of Governments and International Organizations will be held from 23 to 24 May 2016.
The delegation of Maldives to the first World Humanitarian Summit is headed by Attorney General Uz Mohamed Anil, accompanied by Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN Offices in Geneva Dr. Hala Hameed, Counsellor at Permanent Mission of Maldives to the UN Ms. Mariyam Midhfa Naeem, Assistant Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ms. Moomina Ibrahim, and Desk Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ismail Niyaz. During the Summit, the Attorney General will deliver a statement at the Plenary on national commitments. At the summit, the delegation will participate in the three High-Level Leaders’ Roundtables; “Women and Girls: Catalyzing Action to Achieve Gender Equality”, “Natural Disasters and Climate Change; Managing Risks and Crises Differently” and “Changing People’s Lives: From Delivering Aid to Ending Need”. The delegation will also take part in a number of side events organized by different stakeholders in the form of briefings, seminars, workshops and panel discussions.
The World Humanitarian Summit is centered on voluntary commitments made by national governments based on the core areas identified by the United Nations Secretary General’s Agenda for Humanity.
