Foreign Minister Dunya sends a message of sympathy to the Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka

19 May 2016; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Dunya Maumoon has sent a message of sympathy to His Excellency Mangala Samaraweera, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, following the devastating landslides and flooding that has resulted from the torrential rains currently affecting Sri Lanka.

Minister’s message reads as follows:

“I am deeply saddened to hear about the loss of lives and extensive damage to thousands of homes and property, caused by the devastating landslides and flooding that has resulted from the torrential rains currently affecting Sri Lanka.

At this time of national tragedy, on behalf of the Government of Maldives and on my own behalf, I would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies to the Government and the friendly people of Sri Lanka.

I hope that the rescue and recovery operations continue smoothly and pray for the strength and fortitude for the people of Sri Lanka. Please also convey my sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families.”
