The Ambassador of the United Kingdom to the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency James Dauris, called on His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives this morning.

The Head of the South Asia Department at the U.K Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Ms. Laura Clarke called on the Foreign Minister, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim today.

The Ambassador-designate of Maldives to Bangladesh, Her Excellency Ms Aishath Shaan Shakir has today met with the Maldivian students who are facing registration issues at the University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC), Bangladesh. During the meeting, Ambassador Shaan Shakir briefed the students on the steps taken by the government to resolve the issue and assured them that the government will continue to work with the Bangladesh authorities to find a solution at the earliest.

As of 1st January 2017, the Maldives assumed the Chairmanship for the Asia-Pacific Group (APG) for coordination in the Human Rights Council for the year 2017 in Geneva. During its tenureship, the Maldives will be leading the second largest UN regional group in the UN system and will deal with issues related to human rights, bringing together voices of the various Asia-Pacific nations. The APG, which consist of 56 members, was previously led by Malaysia in year 2016.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim has sent a message of condolence to His Excellency Salahuddin Rabbani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, following the series of blasts in Kabul, Kandahar and Helmand, causing tragic loss of innocent lives and grievous injury to many.
