The Head of the South Asia Department at the U.K Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Ms. Laura Clarke called on the Foreign Minister, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim today.

The Third Session of the Maldives – Sri Lanka Joint Commission was held this morning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. H.E. Dr. Mohamed Asim, Minister of Foreign Affairs headed the Maldivian delegation, and Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka headed the Sri Lankan delegation.

His Excellency Mr Arjun Bahadur Thapa, Secretary General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), paid a farewell call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim today.

With the grace of Allah Almighty, the past year has been one of success for the Administration in meeting the needs of the people. An increased number of impactful development projects have been carried out within the last year; at a previously unprecedented speed.

Under the Chairmanship of Nepal, the Fifty-third Session of the SAARC Programming Committee has commenced today.

The Government of Maldives does not agree with the Opinion formulated on 20 January 2017, and published on 26 January, by the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) on the Submission made by the Col (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim. Col (Rtd) Nazim was sentenced on 26 March 2015 by the Criminal Court for 11 years imprisonment for illegal possession of firearms.

India has stood by the Maldives through thick and thin, says the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Asim. Minister Asim made the statement while speaking as the Chief Guest at the Reception held to celebrate the 68th Republic Day of India. Minister Asim also stated that “the excellent relations that exist between the Maldives and India, multidimensional since time immemorial, are founded on mutual respect and shared values. President Yameen’s India First policy reflects the importance the Maldives attaches to its closest neighbor, partner and faithful friend.”
