7 April 2014, London; Acting High Commissioner Mr Ahmed Shiaan met with members of the Maldivian Students Association (MSA) on Saturday 5 April 2014, to discuss ways in which the High Commission could further assist Maldivian students based in the UK.
22 students attended the meeting with the Acting High Commissioner, which accompanied the MSA Extraordinary General Meeting being held at the High Commission. During the meeting a number of topics were discussed including MSA funding, strengthening relations between Maldivians in the UK and the High Commission, and the High Commission’s on-going engagement with the UK Government on student visa applications. Acting High Commissioner Shiaan also briefed the students on the work of the High Commission, particularly the new mechanisms aimed at helping Maldivians living in the UK.
Mr Shiaan also took the opportunity to highlight the new features of the High Commission website to the students, including the information for students page, and the interactive ‘Ask the High Commission’ blog which allows users to pose questions directly to the Acting High Commissioner.
Following the meeting, Acting High Commissioner Shiaan hosted a dinner for the students.
