Foreign Minister meets with Commonwealth Secretary-General

16 December 2013, London; The Minister of Foreign Affairs Her Excellency Ms Dunya Maumoon, has met with the Secretary-General of Commonwealth, His Excellency Mr Kamalesh Sharma in London yesterday.

At the meeting the Secretary-General congratulated the Government of Maldives for conducting Presidential elections in November successfully and further congratulated the Minister for her appointment to the Cabinet. Foreign Minister Dunya thanked Secretary-General Sharma for the Commonwealth’s engagement during the election process,and in particular thanked Dr Lorenz Gonzi and his electoral observer team.

Discussions also focused on potential new areas for Maldives-Commonwealth engagement, especially in the socio-economic sector. 

The Acting High Commissioner to the UK, Mr Ahmed Shiaan, was also in attendance at the meeting which was held in Marlborough House, London.
