10 November 2016, London; The Maldives participated at World Travel Market 2016, a three day event from 7-9 November 2016, whereby industry specialists came together to promote Maldives - the Sunny Side of Life. Mr. Haris Mohamed, Acting Managing Director of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) led the delegation from Maldives.
WTM London has always provided a unique platform to showcase Maldives as an ideal luxury tourist destination to visitors from the UK and the European market. The event was also the perfect opportunity to announce many milestones achieved by the Tourism industry of the Maldives. Some of these achievements include the official launch of the seaplane operations to Addu Atoll and “Official Accommodation Guide 2017”, the Maldives receiving Agents Choice Award for the best “Destination for Beach” and the announcement of the completion of Gan International airport in the South of Maldives.
Another momentous development to be highlighted at WTM London was the inauguration of Maldives TV by Ambassador Ahmed Shiaan. Maldives TV is the first International TV channel of the Maldives, which will have a specific focus on the leisure and travel industry of the Maldives, it will be providing up to date information on tourist resorts and accommodation across the country. Additionally Maldives TV will be broadcasting programmes on the history, culture and lifestyles to provide information to tourists seeking more than just the white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters of the Maldives.
WTM London 2016 was regarded as a tremendous success for the Maldives tourism industry and was attended by a delegation of 200 resorts/travel agents, exhibitors, senior officials of MMPRC, Ambassador Shiaan and officials of the Embassy of Maldives in the UK.
