23 January 2015; President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of condolence to the King of Saudi Arabia, His Majesty Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, following the death of His Majesty King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.

The President’s message to the Saudi King reads as follows:

“The people of the Maldives join me in conveying our deepest sympathies to Your Majesty and the brotherly people of the Kingdom on the passing away of His Majesty King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.”

“King Abdullah was a leader of exceptional quality and courage, who strived to transform the Saudi society and the entire Middle East. The King’s Peace Plan of 2002 that calls for the establishment of the State of Palestine, remains the fundamental document guiding any discussion on the topic. Similarly, the King’s tireless efforts and his personal interests in promoting dialogue and understanding among different cultures and religions are recognized around the world. Most importantly, the King was the architect of several important initiatives in Saudi Arabia, including education and other social sectors. Such changes have inspired several generations to embrace the changes in Saudi Arabia.”

“With the King’s passing away, a light on enlightenment in the world has gone. His demise would be a great loss to his people, to the Muslim Ummah, and to the entire world. May the Almighty Allah rest his soul in peace, grant him a place in Jannat al Firdous. And may the Almighty Allah give strength to Your Majesty and the other members of the royal family. Aameen.”

Innaa Lillaahi Wainnaa Ilahi Raajioon.

“Please accept, Your Majesty, the assurances of my highest consideration.”
