RELATIONS BETWEEN THE MALDIVES AND THE UNITED KINGDOMThe Maldives and the United Kingdom continue to enjoy close, friendly and mutually beneficial relations, due in no small part to the Maldives’ status as a British Protectorate up until 1965. As an active member of the Commonwealth, the Maldives retains close ties with the UK. Many Maldivians choose to study or work in the UK, with a few hundred of Maldivians thought to be living in the UK at any one time. |
