High Commissioner talks on the need to change the trends of global warming and climate change

High Commissioner of Maldives to UK His Excellency Mr Hassan Sobir has emphasised on the need of the global community to change the trends of global warming and climate change happening. High Commissioner stated this in an exclusive interview with the Editor of Changing Times, Ms Francesca Cassini this morning.

High Commissioner stated that Maldives has always been very vocal at various international fora on protecting the environment and reducing the effects of climate change. High Commissioner pointed out that while the Maldives does not contribute to global warming and climate change, being one of the lowest lying islands in the world, it is one of the first to be effected by this man-made disaster.

High Commissioner also emphasised that climate change is happening and it is real. He stated that global warming is like a death sentence to the Maldives – it is bound to result in the death of a nation.

When asked about what message was important for the people to know regarding climate change, High Commissioner stated that it was the big picture that people should understand: “Global warming and climate change is man-made, and human beings were causing this. It is important for people all over the world to take action to change or reverse this trend from happening, both individually and nationally.”
